Our History
Roger Gilmore, Jim Dixon, Jim Stewart, Don Spilker, Ken Willson, and a few others formed the Pebble Creek Club Golden Boys organization in the summer of 1986. The first formal weekly tournament was held on Wednesday, September 10, 1986.
As the organization initially operated without formal By-Laws, there is no record of the number of members in 1986. The Golden Boys annual Christmas Party was also established in December, 1986.
At a meeting of the membership on March 2, 1987, By-Laws were adopted, and annual dues of $10.00 were established. The total membership for 1987 was 67. In May, 1987, an Interclub League Competition was started with Furman, Holly Tree, Keowee Key, and Pebble Creek.
On June 2,1988, a concrete bench (overlooking the practice range was presented to the Club by the Golden Boys. Also in June, 1988, a hole-in-one kitty was established for those who wished to participate. On July 20, 1988, a one-day bus trip to Raintree Country Club was organized and 30 members participated. Total membership for 1988 was 72.
At a membership meeting on January 18, 1989, the annual dues were increased to $15.00. Addition of Red Fox, Spartanburg, and Greenwood Country Clubs increased the Interclub League to a total of seven clubs.
On July 19 , 41 members enjoyed a one-day bus trip to Northwood Country Club. Total membership for 1989 was 73.
The Golden Boys annual picnic was established on September 19, 1990, when President Carlyle (and Rachel) McKaughan hosted the picnic at their lovely home. Sixty-six members and ladies attended. The total membership for 1990 was 81.
At a special membership meeting on June 26,1991, a completely new, more comprehensive draft of the By-Laws, was adopted as replacement of the original By-Laws. The membership for 1991 reached 100.
Membership has stayed close to the 100 mark, even when the overall membership of the Pebble Creek Club has diminished considerably.
